Turkey Turnovers

Our Turkey Turnovers looked great hanging from the lights in our classroom. On one side we made a turkey and the other side is the face of a Native American. They share the feathers!
Making Butter
Much of the focus of our study of the first Thanksgiving was comparing the Pilgrims' way of life to our present day way of life. We made butter the "Pilgrim way" by pouring heavy cream in a cold glass jar and shaking it. We passed the jar around the circle five times until it finally turned into butter. We realized in the time it took us to "make" the butter, we could have driven to the store, bought the butter, come back, buttered our biscuits, and eaten them! We concluded that the Pilgrims certainly had to work hard!
Here is the song we sang while each student shook the jar:

Thanksgiving Gathering
All four of the first grade classes gathered in the pod to share songs and poems. The students were dressed as Pligrims and Indians. Here is the song that we shared:
