Here you will find several of the activities we did to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Excitement is running high with the anticipation of leprechauns visiting our classroom.
Leprechaun Traps
Each student was given the assignment to design a trap that would catch a leprechaun. This was a family project and all members of the family were encouraged to contribute. Since leprechauns love shiny objects, lots of glitter, sparkles, and "gold" were used. Everyone is anxiously waiting to see if the traps catch any of those clever creatures!
Each student wrote a creative story about they would do with a leprechaun if they end up catching one! We created a word bank to use and got right to work on the rough draft. Our editor (Ms. Ross) edited them for us and we took our edited copy to the computer lab. We typed up our final copy and printed it out for display on our bulletin board. We decorated the bulletin board with patchwork shamrocks.
Lucky the Leprechaun Planters
Lucky the Leprechaun started out as bald as could be! We wrapped the picture of Lucky the Leprechaun around empty milk cartons. We planted some grass seed in the milk carton and after a week, he had plenty of thick green hair!
Both of these stories were about men who thought they were clever when they caught a leprechaun. After reading them, we found out the leprechauns in the stories were much smarter then the men.
