Tree Our Class Tree

Each season throughout the school year, our class will observe "our tree". The tree is located next to the playground right outside our classroom. We expect to see many changes!

We observed our tree for the first time today. We noticed many things. It is smaller than most of the other trees around it. It has mostly yellow leaves, with some green toward the bottom, and some orange toward the top. The trunk is skinny. It is a maple tree.

Although it is not offically winter yet, we decided to check on our tree since it feels like winter! We noticed all of the leaves are gone. A branch from a taller tree fell and is now caught in the branches of our tree. We are curious to see if it will be there when we check our tree in the spring. The ends of the branches have small red knobs from where the leaves used to be. We think that is where the new leaves will grow in the spring.

We had a beautiful day today for checking on our tree. It is doing very well! The branch that fell is still there! Our tree has LOTS of green buds on it. Some of the buds have little green points sticking out of them. We think the points are the beginning of the leaves starting to come out. It is very hard to see the buds in this picture, but they are there!
